Four Horseman of the Apocalypse

Prophecy and the Book of Revelations

Is prophecy coming true?

Or are we just experiencing more saber rattling, and continued instability in our world due to the poor state of the world economy? This is a good question albeit a rhetorical one, and I honestly can’t even guess anymore! In the last 9 years, and specifically the last six we’ve experienced unrest and rumors of war each and every year. These aren’t your typical rumors of war either, these are your world ending, financial doom, twelve point on the Richter scale rumors.

Despite the abundance of rumors, the human world manages to spin along no matter the chaos. This is testament to the ingenuity of humans on one hand, but also reveals the movement of something dark, which is hard at work manipulating events, and spreading fear to subjugate and control and already over stimulated and jaded populace.

I don’t affiliate myself with religion, but I was brought up in a Catholic household, and then experienced a born again Christian step-father, and because of these influences I’m somewhat well versed in the bible and love reading prophecy. There are two verses in the book of Revelations (6:5, 6:6) that have always stood out to me, and perplexed me when I was young. I’ve heard many prophet scholars such as John Hogue refer to them as well. They read as follows…

When the Lamb opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, “Come!” I looked, and there before me was a black horse! Its rider was holding a pair of scales in his hand. Then I heard what sounded like a voice among the four living creatures, saying, “A quart of wheat for a day’s wages, and three quarts of barley for a day’s wages, and do not damage the oil and the wine!”

I don’t wish to turn this blog into a bible study class, so I’ll get to the point without getting into the details of what a day’s wage was circa the time of the written Revelations. The above passage indicates that it will cost and entire day’s wage just to feed yourself, and some bible commentators go as far to interpret that a day’s wage won’t be enough to even feed yourself.

Why do I bother to bring up a bible verse, and talk about the interesting subject of wheat you ask? Well before the unrest began in Egypt, and during the “Arab Spring”, wheat prices were at $8.93 a bushel. Three months ago they were at $6.00, and as of this morning (9/20) they have reached $9.39.

The increase in wheat prices makes it difficult to eat. The pain will first be felt in the third world and second world. Then eventually the pain will be felt in the so called first world. Your disposable income will disappear if it hasn’t already, and those credit card debts will continue to rise so you can make ends meet.

I guess it’s the stubborn Catholic in me, and the heavy influence of my extremely devout Catholic grandmother which makes it easy to conjure the bible verse. I don’t possess evidence, nor in my gut do I feel we’re approaching some sort of end of days, or final Apocalypse (which means “to uncover” by the way). Throughout time humanity has felt the sway of the approaching final bell, or heard the thunder of the galloping riders of Armageddon foretold in their respective books of faith, but the world has kept turning, and humans just kept on being human.

That being said, the stakes do get larger as we continue to sit at the dealers table. We continue to abuse the planet, and find ever more imaginative and fundamentally psychopathic ways to abuse each other.

The two world wars of the 20th century claimed a staggering amount of military and civilian lives. We have in our power today the ability to unleash a conflagration of global death equal to the first two world wars and more! So when the alternative news media (which I thank God for everyday), and their respective doom commentators start spouting off about the world being on the verge of a third world war, they spread unneeded fear and anxiety.

I know most of them are just fed up with the injustice, lies, and deceit we experience globally from the banking and financial institutions, not to mention the governments of the world whom bow to them. But solutions need to be proposed as well, and ways in which to organize and prepare for the off chance the riders of Revelations come a knocking.

The world is setting itself up like in the early days of World War I, and there are many factors and events that can set in motion a massive regional war, or even a third world war. These realites are what we face as we march into the 21st century, but always remember life will roll along no matter how many governments rise and fall, or if every country marches off to war.

I say to never lose sight of your goals and ways in which to better yourself. Most of all appreciate those you have in your life today, and this amazing universe we have yet to explore.
